Just a reminder that I will be out of town next week (Nov. 17-21) and my students will not have lessons! (TMS is still open for other students).

The following week are Performance Classes on Monday, Nov. 24th. We will not have lessons that Wed-Fri. because of Thanksgiving.

Christmas Recital

We have our Christmas recital date set already - so mark your calendars and please keep that spot open. I will only be having one recital and so it's imperative that everyone is able to attend. Usually at Christmas we do combined recitals between other teachers from the Music Staff. However, since this will be my last recital with these students, I will be having a private recital for just my students as we celebrate the time we had together these last couple of years.

Baby note...

For those who had not heard - it's a BOY!!!

We did find out our little one is a boy and his name will be Graham Owen Hughes. We are thrilled!!

Fall Session is almost here!

It's hard to believe we're coming to the end of our summer session already!

My big news of the summer is that I am expecting! My little one will be arriving sometime around February 1st. Because of that, I am cutting back at The Music Staff and will only be teaching there Wednesday, Thursday, & Fridays this fall.

End of Summer schedule:

August 14th - last summer lesson

**Please be registered for the fall session by August 14th or there is no guarantee to hold your lesson time.

August 15th - September 3rd - TMS is Closed

Students and teachers alike are anticipating Spring Break!

At The Music Staff we will be closed for lessons the week following Easter - March 24th - 28th.

Levels of Progress

For those of you with students involved in Levels of Progress,

here are the details:

(if you're not sure what this is, don't worry)

When: Sunday, Feb. 24th, 2008

Where: The Music Staff

Bring: JUDGING SHEET, 2 books from which they are performing. They are performing from memory, but the books must be brought for the judges.

Wear: Dressed up! Girls - skirt/dress (to the knee), or dress pants. Guys - dress pants, button-up shirt, tie is optional. Both - no jeans, t-shirts, or tennis shoes.

Piano Sale

DO I NEED TO BUY A PIANO FOR MY CHILD WHO IS TAKING LESSONS?

This is a common question that I receive. A lot of times, parents do not want to invest in a piano when their child begins taking lessons, because they don't know for sure if their child will stick with it, which is very understandable. Starting them out with a keyboard is fine for about the first 6 months. After that, if it looks like the child is going to continue, at the very least a full size keyboard/digital piano are inexpensive options. After a student has taken for 2 years and is going to continue, the purchase of a real piano should be seriously considered.

If you are puchasing something digital, such as a keyboard or piano, these are some of the items that you want be sure are included:
*full keyboard (88 keys)
*weighted keys
*a pedal
*a piano bench

RECITAL DATE

MaryAnn Medlin has decided that for our end of the year recitals at The Music Staff, each teacher will have their own individual studio recitals. The recital for students of Kelly Hughes will be Saturday, May 31st at 2:oo pm at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. Please mark your calendars now and reserve this spot for the recital! Since I will only be having one recital, I will not be able to switch students around to another day. More information will be forthcoming as the time gets closer.
